When I was a child, I spent many hours in the local cinema where my father, my brothers and sisters officiated. So many joys and happinesses expressed in front of this screen, so much pains and sadnesses brought by these actors, as well of sufferings and angers suggested by these images... I always found in the cinema, such a share of humanity, delivered often without ornaments so that living without it, never came to my mind.

Festival du film asiatique de DeauvilleGenuine mirror of the cultures and the times, the cinema is also a genuine tool for sensitizing but sometimes also, unfortunately of propaganda. The weight of the words, the shocks of the photographs... well, nothing compared with the impact of a dialogue or an image.

Everybody knows a sentence from an old film, everybody has once been subjugated by the beauty of an actress, everbody has bursted to laugh or in sobs in front of the talent of such a great actor.

The cinema, even with all that it has of bad and hateful, by its commercial ambitions for example, remains always a wonderful place for all our daily frustrations, and it has this of remarkable which it can touch no matter who.

For me, I am particularly intersted in the Asian cinema, specialy Japanese and Korean ones. The traditional ones of Ozu, Kurosawa, Kim Ki Duk or Im Kwon Taek, for exemples are original cinematographic lessons as well on the technical and visual level, as on the narrative perfection of subjects however so simple and so human.
We often find in these Far East films a real freshness and a simplicity that too many European and American directors very forget mostoften.
